This ASL Autism Support Resource List is the perfect way to get lots of links in one place for learning fun with your autistic students! Educational games, songs, crafts, Boom cards, and more are all here.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is one of the most rapidly growing developmental disorders in the United States. ASD is more common in children than cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. Autism affects one out of every 44 children in the United States. Autism affects deaf people more than hearing people.
According to estimates, 40% of children with autism spectrum disorder are nonverbal. Although some autistic children are nonverbal, this does not mean that they do not have something to say. Expect your autistic children to have as many ideas and opinions as do any other student, but you may need to encourage them to share them in their unique way.
This ASL Autism Support PDF includes many links to the lessons and activities to assist with nonverbal communication. Be sure to subscribe to the newsletter to stay up to date on new sign language lessons we continue to create.
