Here are some engaging activities that help preschoolers review their knowledge of colors for a more inclusive learning experience:

1. Color Matching

Use color flashcards with different colors. Children can match colors on the cards or objects to their corresponding color cards.

Sign Language Component:

  • ⭐ Teach common color signs like “red,” blue,” yellow,” etc.
  • ⭐ Introduce signs for real-world color objects like “green car” and “orange crayon.”

2. Color Bingo

Make bingo cards with squares filled with different colors. Call out color names, and the children cover the matching color on their cards with a marker or chip.

Sign Language Component:

  • ⭐ Call out the color name and demonstrate the sign before the children mark their cards.
  • ⭐ Add color signs to your Bingo cards. Show the children the color, and they must mark the sign that matches that color.

3. Color Freeze Dance

Play upbeat music and encourage children to move freely. At random intervals, pause the music and call out a color. Children must freeze if they are wearing that color.

Sign Language Component:

  • ⭐ Encourage children to sign the color and point to their matching clothes. (Instead of pointing, have children sign clothing that matches that color, like “blue shoe.”

4. Sensory Bins with Colors

Fill separate bins with different materials and color them using food coloring (e.g., blue water beads, yellow sand). Children can explore the textures and identify the colors.

Sign Language Component:

  • ⭐ Have children sign the colors of each bin or object.

These activities provide a hands-on and interactive approach to reviewing colors, making learning engaging and fun for preschool students. Incorporating sign language adds an extra dimension to color learning, promoting inclusivity and diverse communication skills in the classroom.
