Here are some creative and engaging ways to review numbers 1-6 with your preschool students, including a component to learn Sign Language:

1. Number Word Recognition

Practice matching number words (one, two, three, etc.) to numerals.

2. Ordinal Numbers

Introduce first, second, third, etc., using objects or children in a line.

3. Number Patterns

Create simple number patterns and have children continue them.

4. Number Puzzles

Match number card puzzles in the correct order to see a picture.

5. Quantity Comparisons

Compare groups of objects to determine which group has more or less.

Sign Language Component:

  • ⭐️ Review signs for numbers 1 through 6.
  • ⭐️ Teach signs for “more,” “less,” “equal,” and “caterpillar.”
  • ⭐️ Incorporate signs for ordinal numbers (“first,” “second,” “third.”)
  • ⭐️ Sign a number 1-6 and have students make tallies or draw shapes to match.
  • ⭐️ Practice fingerspelling the number words “one,” “two,” five,” and “six.”
  • ⭐️ Practice students’ lunch numbers in sign language.

By incorporating these signs into the activities, children can learn to recognize and use numbers in spoken and signed language, enhancing their overall number literacy and communication skills.
